Transformation (BE-ST). The
cross laminated timber panels
and glue laminated beams
were manufactured using
the UK’s only Vacuum Press,
located at the BE-ST Campus,
Hamilton, near Glasgow.
The entire process of
installing the prefabricated
panels was completed within
just two days in January using
a crane positioned in the
driveway, which demonstrates
the speed and convenience

timber approach.
The roof of the structure was
a pre-clad panelised system to
allow for 昀氀exibility to align with
the existing roof line.
To complement the PV
array, a SunAmp Thermino
210 ePV Thermal Storage
Battery was installed to
reduce dependence on gas for
domestic hot water use.

This phase also involved
re-rendering the existing

aesthetic.
Cork was chosen for its
renewable credentials
and its ability to provide
wall respiration, therefore
mitigating interstitial
condensation and dampness
risks, which ensures wall
dryness and subsequently
diminishes heat loss capacity.
