Making the correct grade
The TDUK Trade Note ‘Tile
Batten Quality Control’ provides
guidance on how everyone in
the construction industry can
make sure they always purchase
quality product that complies
with British Standards BS 5534
and BS 8417.
Marking alone does not ensure
battens are correctly graded.
BS 5534 standard requires
each batten to be marked
with the following information:
Manufacturer, Graded BS 5534,
imported and/or four-letter
species code, size/dimension.
Note: Companies that
follow industry best practice
will also apply a third-party
accreditation marking
which records independent
compliance and management
records of the production of
graded battens.
