Two-Family House
Set into the cli昀昀s on the wild
North Cornish coast, this
seaside home combines a
carefully detailed CLT structure
with a ground-昀氀oor ‘plinth’ and
façade formed from local stone.
Central to the interior is
a dramatic curved timber
staircase and generous hallway
that provides a pivot point
at the crank between the two
primary wings.
Throughout the interiors a
natural palette of timber, stone
and Cornish clay plaster creates
a warm, textured and inviting
environment.
The Cowshed
Located in the Cotswolds
National Landscape, The
Cowshed sensitively converts a
small, historic listed barn into a
two-bedroom dwelling.
The two sides of the barn
were united with the insertion
of a timber structure which
mitigates the level change
and houses a new staircase
to the 昀椀rst 昀氀oor. To make best
use of the limited space, the
master ensuite bathroom is
tucked under the eaves with
the shower suspended over
the stair, creating compact but
characterful spaces.
The retention and repair of
historic features such as doors,
weathered timber boarding and
timber roof structure respect the
barn’s agricultural heritage.
Beech Court Pavilion
This striking pavilion provides
a 昀氀exible dining space for
Abingdon School, and a foyer
area for the connected Amey
Theatre.

timber latticed, octagonalshaped roof which, combined
with acoustic timber slatting
between the joists, brings a
richness and warmth to the
scheme. The timber acoustic
panels on the underside of
the roof create absorbent
surfaces that allow for clear
conversation.
New Wave House
This resourceful rooftop
extension uses mass timber
to add 495sqm of 昀氀exible
workspace to the top of an
existing light industrial building
in North London.
At the heart of the scheme is a
lightweight Douglas-昀椀r glulam
structure. The extension rests on
the existing load-bearing walls,
preserving the existing footprint
of the building while expanding
昀氀oor area by 40%.
The glulam was fabricated
onsite in the contractor/client
New Wave London’s joinery
workshop. Timber o昀昀cuts were
reused to make freestanding
furniture, and the exposed
timber frame creates an
elegant, calm interior.
The Armadillo
This timber sound pavilion, built
from Eucalyptus and Pine CLT,
was developed for Houghton
Music Festival. The Armadillo
is globally the 昀椀rst permanent
outdoor CLT structure to employ
the hybrid combination of
timber species.
The curved pavilion is
constructed from stepped
arches, composed of 42
prefabricated CLT panels. The
昀氀at panels interlock to create
a series of self-supporting
modular arch structures that are
fully demountable and require
minimal temporary works.
