STOCKING TIMBER
WHY BSW TIMBER SUPPORTS
THE UPDATED TIC ROADMAP
Following the Government’s recent relaunch of the Timber in
Construction Roadmap, BSW Timber explains why they see a reason
for positivity in the timber sector as we head further into 2025.
SW Timber's
focus is always
on supply chain
security and, with
timber prices predicted to
rise, we see a real opportunity
to push British timber as the
preferred choice.
The Timber in Construction
Roadmap (TiC) is a crucial step
towards increasing the use of
sustainable, homegrown timber
in construction. This initiative will
drive economic growth, create
rural jobs, and help deliver
1.5 million energy-e昀케cient
homes, all while reducing the
carbon footprint of the built
environment.

To support the increased
use of homegrown timber
in construction, the UK will,
crucially, also have to increase
the number of productive
softwood trees being planted.
Speaking at the TiC Summit in
London, when the roadmap was
unveiled, BSW Timber’s National
Sales Director, Neil Horton,
highlighted the importance of
this renewed commitment: “The
new Government’s relaunch of
the roadmap is encouraging,
and we’re hopeful it will lead to
more British timber being used.
This not only supports jobs but
also strengthens our industry.”

one of the best ways to reduce
emissions from buildings.
Around 25% of the UK’s
greenhouse gas emissions are
from the built environment,
and larger buildings can store
up to 400% more carbon when
built out of engineered timber
products compared to when
built with concrete.
With 80% of the UK’s timber
currently imported, this
roadmap sets out ambitious
actions to boost domestic
timber production, enhance
the supply chain, and solidify
timber’s role in low-carbon
construction.
